What to Know For your First Macbook:

Congratulations on your new iMac or MacBook! It's high time you learn cool stuff about it. Don't worry; we've got you covered. Whether you're looking to learn about its keyboard shortcuts or want to acquaint yourself with its features, you're in the right place. Read on to find out.

Doing a Clean Installation

As with any other computer, the first thing after acquiring your new Mac is set it up. Start by installing a clean operating system than manually transfer your files from your old computer to it.

For the migration process, use Apple's unique tool called the Migration Assistant, which is similar to the Setup Assistant and only runs when you set up your new Mac. It will help you copy your files from your old Mac or a backup.

Backing Your Files

Create a robust backup strategy right after a clean installation (before you start loading up your new Mac with documents, music, and wacky cat photographs).

Backups allow you to restore your Mac in the event of a calamity swiftly. Use Time Machine, Apple's built-in method for backing up all your files to an external hard drive.

Setting Up Your User Account

You only need one user account if you're the only one using your Mac. Nevertheless, you can create additional accounts for friends, family, or coworkers, which prove to be handy.

Menu Bar

The Menu Bar is a vital tool for using and controlling your Mac. You can utilize its extras to search for menu commands and obtain help etc.

Mac Shortcuts

There are many Mac keyboard shortcuts you should learn to make your computing life more manageable. Keyboard shortcuts will save you time and help you get more done. Here are some of them:

Initiate Spotlight for Searching: Press Command + Space

to bring up a helpful search interface for finding your files on your Mac. Spotlight can handle various tasks, including retrieving files, answering basic inquiries, and doing math problems.

Switching Between Apps: Press Command + Tab

to switch between your open applications. To cycle through the available apps, hold down the Command key and then press Tab. After highlighting the app, let go.

Closing Apps from App Switcher - In the Command + Tab view, hit the Q key while holding down the command key for closing open apps.

Hot Corners – Configure your hot corners by going to System Preferences > Mission Control > Hot Corners.

Advanced Hot Corners - If you wish to use Hot Corners but accidentally activate features, hold down the Option key to create a Hot Corner. The Hot Corner will not appear again unless you hold down the Option key.

Hiding Windows: Press Command + H

to hide a window on the desktop instantly. The app will go into the background, but you can bring it back by clicking on the dock icon or Command + Tab.

Hiding all Windows: By pressing Option + Command + H, you can hide all windows except the one for the app you're presently using.

Switch Between App Windows: Switch between many app windows by pressing Command + Tilde ().

Switch Between Desktops - If you have numerous desktops, you can rapidly switch between them by clicking the Control button and either the left or right arrow.

Use the Trackpad

The trackpad on a Mac is a helpful feature that allows you to customize how you click on it, scroll and zoom, and perform other actions.

Remember the Dock

A Dock is a crucial tool for interacting with your Mac. You may use it to open programs, files, folders, and more. Be sure to learn how to use it, its many configuration options, and make it a powerful productivity accelerator.

iCloud Drive has come a long way since its debut in OS X Yosemite and iOS 8. When you create an Apple ID and use two-step verification to increase security, you get 5 GB of free iCloud Drive storage.

This storage space can be used to back up your iPhone or iPad or sync data between your Mac and iOS devices. You can even utilize iCloud to save space on your Mac by transferring files to iCloud Drive. If 5 GB of storage isn't enough for you in the future, you can always buy more.

There you have it! Essential details about your new Mac. Should you need to make more inquiries or encounter an issue, be sure to call Mr Phix Smart Repairs. We're always here for your service needs.
